72 area Marines begin tour in Iraq

10/5/2006

Seventy-two area Marine Reservists have arrived at Camp Baharia near Fallujah in Iraq for an estimated seven-month tour of duty, Marine Corps officials said.

The Reservists are members of Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, based in Ohio and Michigan and headquartered in Perrysburg Township.

They will conduct stability and security operations as part of Regimental Combat Team-5.

They were activated June 1 and spent four months of intense training at Marine Corps bases in California.

In 2003, the company was mobilized in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
