DANA POINT, Calif. — International fishing authorities say a Dana Point man has broken a world record with a 427-pound yellowfin tuna caught earlier this year off the Mexican coast.
U-T San Diego reports (http://bit.ly/UNDMwE ) that the International Game Fish Association has approved Guy Yocom's catch as the new all-tackle world record.
The 55-year-old hooked the fish from a boat in September about 100 miles off Cabo San Lucas.
Yocom's catch breaks the record of 405.2 pounds set in 2010 by Mike Livingston of Sunland.
A La Mesa man, John Petruescu, claims to have landed an even larger yellowfin — 445 pounds — earlier this month off of Baja California. However, someone else took the rod twice during the battle, disqualifying him from a record.
