UT s games against Northern Illinois might not be made up

2/18/2008

NIU coach Ricardo Patton just said on the MAC coaches teleconference that he doesn t expect all of his team's missed games to be made up after the school postponed all athletic events for 10 days following the killings on campus.

We won t have an opportunity to reschedule all of those games, Patton said. It may be a possibility to reschedule one of those games.

You can count the Huskies BracketBusters game as one of the ones they won t make up. The other two missed were a home game against Western Michigan and a road game against the Rockets.

The Huskies women s basketball team will also miss three games, including a trip to Toledo that was planned for Saturday.

As of noon Monday, UT athletic department officials had not yet had discussions with the MAC office about making up the games. MAC commissioner Rick Chryst is in previously scheduled meetings with school presidents today and won t be available until later. When the discussions do start, it will be between several different parties. It could take a while.

Next week, there is no scheduled MAC game midweek for any men s basketball team, so maybe the Huskies could fit two games in. As for the women s game, the possibility seems remote that it will be made up.

Of course this pales in comparison to what the NIU campus is going through right now, but I find it fitting for the way the season is going that the only place the UT men s team can win is at home, and they might have a home game taken away. As for the women, Mark Ehlen resigned last week thinking he d have three home games left, and after Saturday's loss to Miami, now he might only have one left - Feb. 27 against Eastern Michigan.
