Movie finale set at Franklin Mall 6

4/17/2004

The Franklin Mall 6 theater will close tomorrow after the last movie showing, the owner, National Amusements Inc., said yesterday.

The six-screen theater, outside Westfield Shoppingtown Franklin Park mall, is to be replaced by a 16-screen cinema inside the mall as part of the $113 million renovation of 33-year-old shopping center.

Jennifer Hanson, who is a spokesman for the theater chain from Dedham, Mass., said she did not know when the theater building would be demolished nor when the cinema inside the mall would open.

The new screens are in a new wing, but construction has not yet begun.

National Amusements, which is the dominant theater chain in the Toledo area, also operates the nearby Showcase Cinemas on Secor Road in Toledo and Franklin Park Cinemas on Monroe Street.

The chain, which is privately owned and headed by media magnate Sumner Redstone, also plans to construct a 20-screen complex at the Levis Commons development in Perrysburg.
