Toledo convention group expects record-size event

1/27/2005

The Greater Toledo Convention & Visitor's Bureau will be host this summer what could be its largest convention series by a single group, said Jim Donnelly, president of the bureau and SeaGate Convention Centre.

The Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses will take up 3,600 hotel-motel rooms every weekend from June 9 to Aug. 25.

Mr. Donnelly said he expects 6,850 people every weekend for the duration of the convention. They will account for 28,800 room-nights during their stay. The convention to be attended by delegates from Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana, will be in Toledo because the conference center in Pontiac, Mich., the organization usually uses for summer conferences is being torn down.
