Duket Porter Associates was honored for The Cliffs, a Catawaba Island residence.

A Catawba Island house and a University of Toledo residence complex are the top honorees in this year s design awards program sponsored by the Toledo

chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Also receiving distinctions are the South Toledo branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library; additions and renovations to St. Francis DeSales High School in Toledo, and an addition to the Widener University Wellness Center in Chester, Pa.

All five buildings and the architects will be honored today at an awards gala at the Toledo Country Club.

Nine northwest Ohio architects and architectural firms entered 24 projects in the

    competition.

Duket Porter Associates of Toledo will receive an honor award for The Cliffs, a private residence on Catawba Island.

The same distinction will go to GBBN Architects of Cincinnati and Vetter Design Group Inc. of Toledo for Ottawa House East and Ottawa House West, a 620-bed UT residence complex that opened last year.

Honor awards are given to projects that demonstrated exemplary design sensitivity.

All projects were judged last month by architects in Detroit, where judges said The Cliffs had nicely integrated materials and Ottawa House was very elegantly done with confident Gothic references.

Michael Duket, principal of Duket Porter Associates, also will be honored tonight as Toledo Architect of the Year for 2006.
