Bankruptcy filings in northwest Ohio rose in January from a year ago but fell from December figures, according to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo.

There were 385 filings, up 26 percent from a year earlier but down from 397 filings the month before, the court said yesterday. The Toledo court handles filings for 21 northwest Ohio counties.

Of the January filings, 295 were Chapter 7 liquidations, up 31 percent over last year. The 90 Chapter 13 wage-earner repayment plans were up 14 percent from the year before.
