Safety agency proposes fines for 3 area firms

Three northwest Ohio firms have been assessed preliminary penalties of $63,000 by the Toledo office of the federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration for alleged workplace safety violations.

The firms, violations and proposed fines are:

S K Hand Tool Corp., Defiance, 24 serious violations, $39,950; Toledo Shredding LLC, 275 Millard Ave., six serious violations, $13,500; and All-Star Roofing, 2726 Lagrange St., 24 serious, $9,600.

The firms have the right to appeal the citations. Typically, firms agree to fix problems either during visits by inspectors or soon after in exchange for penalty reductions.
