SEATTLE - Comedian Jerry Seinfeld will appear in Microsoft Corp.'s next Windows advertising campaign.

A person familiar with the plans confirmed a report in yesterday's Wall Street Journal that named Mr. Seinfeld as the company's new pitchman. The person spoke to the Associated Press on condition on anonymity because the plans have not been formally announced.

Mr. Seinfeld is to appear with Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates and is to receive about $10 million, people close to the situation told the Journal.

The campaign, part of Microsoft's effort to craft a more youthful image, reportedly is to start Sept. 4.
