DAYTON, Ohio A tire recycling company in Dayton plans an expansion that will create at least 23 jobs.

Dayton International Tire Recycling LLC plans to open a plant in nearby Troy in late spring to focus on shredding tires for semi-trucks and off-road vehicles.

Miami County Commissioner Ron Widener says the announcement means both welcome jobs and a more locally based outlet for much-needed tire recycling.

The company plans to sell scrap steel from tires locally to metal recycling plants.

The company says granulated rubber made from the used tires can be used in construction, landscaping, playgrounds, sports fields, automotive materials and asphalt roads.

Troy is approximately 50 miles south of Lima.
