Ohio per-capita income in '07 up 4.6%

In the metro Toledo area, only Wood County residents had a bigger increase in per-capita income in 2007 than the statewide average, a new report shows.

For the nation, personal income grew 6 percent from 2006 to 2007 and it was up 4.6 percent in Ohio, according to a report released yesterday by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Personal income climbed 5.5 percent in Wood County in 2007, amounting to $33,528 per person, the report shows.

The study has figures from the first year of the current recession, and all Ohio and Michigan counties showed increases from 2006. Counted are all residents and all paychecks, dividends, Social Security benefits, and other income from 3,111 counties.

Nationally, per-capita income ranged from $8,579 in Loup County, Nebraska to $132,728 in Teton County, Wyoming, the report shows.

In metro Toledo, Lucas County's total personal income rose 3.6 percent in 2007 to $33,197 per person. Fulton County's income was up 4.2 percent, at $32,158 per person, and Ottawa County's was up 4.5 percent, at $35,155 per person.

Elsewhere in northwest Ohio, Defiance County's total personal income was up 3.2 percent in 2007, at $30,395 per person; Erie County's was up 2.7 percent, at $35.222 per person; Hancock County's was up 4.8 percent, at $34.131 per person, and Seneca County's was up 3.9 percent, at $27,987.

For the state's big-city counties, Cuyahoga County, where Cleveland is, had a 4.5 percent raise in total personal income in 2007, at $40,838; Franklin County, where Columbus is, jumped 4.8 percent, at $38,556 per person; Hamilton County, where Cincinnati is, went up 4.9 percent, at $42,730 per person; Mahoning County, where Youngtown is, rose 3.5 percent, at $31,404 per person; Montgomery County, where Dayton is, increased 3 percent, at $34,732 per person.

Statewide, the per-capita income was $34,468 in 2007 and in metro areas only it was $36,120, the report shows.

In Michigan, per-capita income rose 4 percent in 2007 to $34,423; it was $34,941 in metro areas only, the federal figures show. In Hillsdale County, total personal income increased 2.5 percent in 2007, at $25,271; in Lenawee County, it was up 2.7 percent, at $29,707; and in Monroe County, it climbed 3.6 percent, at $32,355.
