Jobless rates mixed in NW Ohio counties

Unemployment rates rose in some northwest Ohio counties last month and dropped in others as the state rate climbed to 10.2 percent, according to Tuesday's report from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The jobless rate in Lucas County was 11.9 percent in April, up from 11.8 percent the month before and 6.7 percent for the year-ago month. Toledo’s rate went to 12.7 percent, up from 12.6 percent the month before and 7.4 percent a year ago.

But the rates dropped in Wood County, to 10.9 percent in April from 11 percent in March, and in Fulton County, to 13.8 percent in April from 14.4 percent the moth before.

Williams County had the highest unemployment rate among the 88 counties in the state, at 16.3 percent. Toledo's rate was third highest among 20 cities in the state, trailing Youngstown at 13.9 percent and Mansfield at 12.8 percent.
