Human error blamedfor Verizon disruption

A disruption experienced for several hours Wednesday by some customers of Verizon Wireless in the Toledo area was caused by human error and affected about 10 percent of the cellular phone company's towers, a spokesman said Thursday.

“Our technicians were doing some upgrade work which inadvertently directed additional traffic to those sites, leading to a surge in traffic,” spokesman Laura Merritt said.

Service was disrupted between 4 p.m. and midnight Tuesday, affecting the ability to make and receive calls as well as texting capabilities.
