Columbia's March rate for gas to hit 11-year low

2/13/2010

Columbia Gas of Ohio yesterday said it will charge 44 cents per 100 cubic feet in March for natural gas, up from 42 cents this month but down from 95 cents a year ago.

The new charge is the lowest March rate since 1999. The utility estimates the average homeowner's bill will be $71.

The rate, which can be rejected by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, affects about 32 percent of customers in the Columbia Gas territory, as the rest purchase their heating fuel through independent suppliers.
