Federal safety agency fines northwest Ohio company

A Spencerville, Ohio, die cast metal products company has been fined $91,000 by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration for alleged safety violations that led to a worker being injured by a machine last year.

Ohio Decorative Products Inc. was cited for one willful, one serious, and one repeat violation of worker-safety regulations after an inspection found spinning machinery that was not adequately shielded.

On Dec. 3, an employee working on a machine in the facility got his hair caught on a shaft that protruded from one machine, removing his scalp, OSHA said.
