Ohio unemployment rises slightly

Ohio's unemployment rate ticked up slightly to 10.9 percent in February, up 0.1 percent from 10.8 percent in January, according to data released FRiday morning by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Employment rose by an estimated 3,500 jobs, but that was offset by an estimated 6,000 people entering the job market but who were unable to find work., the department said.

The number of unemployed has increased by 99,000 in the past 12 months from 548,000. The February unemployment rate for Ohio was up from 9.1 percent in February 2009.

The U.S. unemployment rate for February was 9.7 percent, unchanged from January.
