Area jobless rates fall

Local jobless rates fell in February across metro Toledo, according to figures released Friday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The unemployment rate in Lucas County fell to 13 percent in February from 13.2 percent in January, with an estimated 27,800 people counted as unemployed, the state estimated.

Within the city of Toledo, the rate declined by a similar amount, falling to 13.5 percent from 13.7 percent in January. A year earlier, the jobless rate in Lucas County was 11.6 percent, and the city of Toledo had an estimated 12.4 percent of its workforce actively seeking employment.

Wood, Fulton, and Ottawa counties had jobless rates decline in February. Wood County's rate fell to 11.8 percent, from 12 percent in January, the state said, while Fulton County's jobless rate declined to 15.7 percent from 16 percent.

For the second consecutive month, Ottawa County continued to have the highest jobless rate in the state in February at 19.1 percent, despite dropping from 19.8 percent in January.
