COLUMBUS — The Web site for an Ohio alliance rebate program has been swamped following the launch of the promotion.

Starting at 8 a.m. Friday, consumers were to go to OhioApplianceRebate.com to reserve their $100-$250 rebate on the purchase of an energy efficient appliance. Within the first hour, visitors to the site got a message saying it was experiencing high volume and that they should be patient and try again later.

Close to 90,000 rebates are available to Ohioans who replace old home appliances with new Energy Star certified refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, gas heaters and electric heat pump water heaters. The program has been funded with $11 million in federal stimulus money.

Consumers must obtain a rebate reservation before going to the store.
