More money in state pool for efficient dishwashers
4/1/2010If you were planning on buying an energy-efficient dishwasher but were discouraged after hearing this week that the state had run out of rebate money, buck up.
Ohio consumers who last Friday reserved 15,542 rebates, good for $100 off for each energy-saving dishwasher purchased, failed to follow-through and buy the appliance within 72 hours.
As a result, $132,355 is now back in the available rebate pool for dishwashers under the new Ohio Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program.
The program, which kicked off Friday, wraps up in May - or sooner, if the money runs out.
Bethany Close, a spokesman for the Ohio Energy Resources division, which is disbursing
$10.1 million in rebates made available by the U.S. Department of Energy, said 43,530 rebates equaling about $7.1 million have been redeemed for dishwashers, washing machines, refrigerators, electric water heaters, and gas water heaters.
Rebates range from $100 to $250 depending on the appliance purchased.
A waiting list of 1,820 who had applied for dishwasher rebates have now been given rebate reservations, Ms. Close said.
Under the program, a consumer requests a rebate online or by phone, and then has 72 hours to purchase the item. Once the item is purchased, the person can claim their rebate.
If the item is not purchased in that time frame, their request is rejected and they must reapply.
