Michigan's April jobless rate dips to 14 percent

LANSING, Mich. — Michigan's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged downward slightly to 14 percent in April.

That's down from 14.1 percent in March, according to a release Wednesday from the state.

Michigan has had the nation's highest jobless rate for four consecutive years. The national unemployment rate in April was 9.9 percent.

Michigan's jobless rate in April 2009 was 13.2 percent.

The latest state report says Michigan added an estimated 6,000 nonfarm payroll jobs last month.

The biggest job gains came in retail trade. The largest job losses came in leisure and hospitality.

The number of manufacturing jobs held about even last month.
