Toledo, local county jobless rates drop

Unemployment shrank in most northwest Ohio counties last month and dropped in Toledo to 12.1 percent from 12.7 percent in April, according to the state Department of Job and Family Services.

The jobless rates, released Tuesday morning, show Lucas County's level declined to 11.5 percent in May from 12.2 percent in April; Wood County slipped to 10.1 percent from 11.1 percent; Ottawa County decreased to 10.8 percent from 14 percent; and Fulton County fell to 11.8 percent from 12.7 percent. All the rates were below the levels from May, 2009.

The statewide rate, released Friday, dropped to 10.7 percent last month from 10.9 percent the month before. The national rate was 9.7 percent in May, down from 9.9 percent the month before.
