Ohio's jobless rate drops

Ohio's unemployment rate in June fell to 10.5 percent, down 0.2 percentage points from the 10.7 percent jobless rate the state posted in May, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services said Friday morning.

Ohio's nonfarm wage and salary employment decreased 1,500 over the month, from the revised 5,050,400 in May to 5,048,900 in June. The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in June was 625,000, down from 641,000 in May.

The number of unemployed has decreased by 5,000 in the past 12 months from 630,000. The June unemployment rate for Ohio was unchanged from June 2009, the department said.

The U.S. unemployment rate for June was 9.5 percent, down from 9.7 percent in May.
