Unemployment declined in most northwest Ohio counties last month, but edged up in Lucas County and in Toledo, according to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Not one of the local rates was higher than the jobless figure of July 2009. Other local rates inching up in July from June were in Defiance, Paulding, Van Wert, and Williamss counties.

The highest July rate regionally was in Williams County at 13.5 percent; the lowest was in Erie County, at 9.2 percent.

The statewide rate last month, released Friday, was 10.3 percent, down from 10.5 percent in June. The national figure was 9.5 percent, unchanged from the month before.
