American Electric owes Ohio customers $156M

A new analysis from a consumer advocate says American Electric Power has made excessive profit and owes central Ohio customers a refund of up to $156 million.

The number is part of the ongoing argument over what constitutes “significantly excessive earnings” under a 2008 state energy law. The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio will have the final say sometime in the next few months.

The utility serves parts of northwest Ohio.
