AAA: 3% more Ohioans will travel for the holidays this year

COLUMBUS — AAA expects more Ohioans to travel over the upcoming holiday season, reflecting what the auto club describes as modest improvement in the economy.

The organization on Thursday released a forecast that 3.5 million Ohio residents would venture 50 or more miles from home during the Christmas-to-New Year's period. That would be 3 percent more than last year.

AAA says the overwhelming majority of the Ohio holiday travelers — 3.25 million — will drive to their destinations.

The auto club says 92.3 million people nationwide will take trips of at least 50 miles and spend 3.5 percent more on holiday travel than they did last year.

The numbers are based on economic forecasts and research by Global Insight.
