Ohio gas prices jump another 9 cents, Michigan prices up 5.1 cents
1/3/2011Ohio gas prices have risen another 9 cents in the last week, and now motorists are paying almost 25 cents more per gallon than they were a month ago. AAA Michigan says gasoline prices are up 5.1 cents per gallon over the past week to a statewide average of $3.13.
A survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express puts the Ohio's average price for regular-grade gasoline at about $3.11 a gallon, up from $3.02 last Monday. Last month at this time, Ohioans paid $2.87 for regular.
Rising oil prices recently pushed Ohio gas prices above $3 for the first time in more than two years. Oil traded around $70 for most of last year before jumping to a two-year high above $92 in December on signs of strong demand in emerging economies such as China.
Analysts say if oil keeps going higher, $4-a-gallon gas is possible by summer.
In Michigan, the statewide average is 44.5 cents per gallon higher than last year at this time.
