OmniSource Corp., an Indiana-based scrap metal recycler, has purchased the 12 acres and buildings of the former New Mather Metals Inc. plant adjacent to its existing scrapyard in north Toledo for $1.35 million and plans to transform the site into a more retail-oriented recycling facility.

OmniSource applied for and was granted a special use permit to allow the 173,000-square-foot former factory and the surrounding parcels to be used as a full-service consumer recycling center to help segregate heavy-duty industrial customers from someone recycling a home appliance.
