NORTH CANTON, Ohio — ATM maker Diebold Inc. is planning to build a new world headquarters on its home turf in northeast Ohio.

The company based in North Canton said Tuesday it’s looking to consolidate its existing offices in the Akron/Canton area at a new $100 million campus in the region. It’s considering a handful of possible sites for the facility, where 1,500 employees will work.

Diebold says the decision comes after discussions that included officials in other states. So Diebold would stay in Ohio, the state offered about $56 million in incentives including tax credits and loans.

Republican Gov. John Kasich joined officials for the announcement Tuesday and said he’s excited Diebold is staying.
