Northwest Ohio foreclosure filings fall in 1st quarter

Foreclosure-related filings in northwest Ohio slumped in the first quarter of this year compared to a year earlier, as they did in Ohio and in Michigan, a report released Thursday shows.

Metro Toledo had 1,622 foreclosure-related filings, down 36 percent from the fourth quarter of 2010 and down 37 percent from the first quarter of last year, shows RealtyTrac Inc., an Irvine, Calif., firm that tracks foreclosure data. Last month alone, filings were down 11 percent from a year earlier for Lucas, Fulton, Ottawa, and Wood counties.

First-quarter filings in Ohio were 24,697, down 26 percent from a year ago, and in Michigan were 37,506, off 18 percent from a year earlier. Nationally, RealtyTrac said, there were 681,153 filings for the first three months of the year, off 27 percent from a year ago.
