The Monroe Publishing Co. will outsource the printing of the Monroe Evening News starting with the Monday edition.

Publisher and president Lonnie Peppler-Moyer said the company will see some annual savings over printing at its own facility, but the biggest reason for the change is the large capital outlay that would have been necessary to upgrade the newspaper’s aging equipment.

“It just didn’t make sense to spend $1 million-plus when we could be investing in the new media area,” she said.

Ms. Peppler-Moyer said nine full-time employees and 25 part-time employees will lose their jobs.

The company has contracted with Michigan Web Press in northern Oakland County for its printing.

It plans to continue its commercial printing business.

The Monroe Evening News has a daily circulation of about 18,000 copies.
