MONROE — La-Z-Boy Inc., a leading maker of residential furniture including its signature recliners, said Wednesday it had formed a partnership with Kuka Home, one of China’s largest upholstery producers and retailers, to develop the La-Z-Boy brand in mainland China.

Kuka Home, which has more than 1,600 stores across China, will work with the Monroe furniture maker to develop, manufacture, distribute, and sell products to Chinese consumers through a La-Z-Boy store concept the two firms will develop later this year.

Store products will be made in La-Z-Boy facilities outside of China, but also in China under licensing agreements, using Kuka Home’s manufacturing plants in China. Kuka Home said it expects to open several hundred La-Z-Boy stores over the next few years.
