ACHIEVEMENTS

C. Michael Smith has been appointed chairman of the Mannik & Smith Group Inc. by the Maumee-based engineering firm. He had been president and CEO since 2000. Richard F. Bertz has been named the company's president and CEO. He has been with Mannik & Smith since 1993.

Daniel J. Hanrahan, Lauri M. Shanahan, and Debra Smithart-Oglesby have been elected to the board of directors of Sandusky-based Cedar Fair LP.

Niki Mosier, Spangler Candy Co.'s director of human capital, has been appointed to the Bryan, Ohio, firm's management committee.

Bruce Klinger has been named to lead the Northwest Ohio Agency of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. He previously worked for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co.

Jewell Lightner, director of diversity for ProMedica, was awarded the minority health leadership award given by the Ohio Commission on Minority Health. The award is given to individuals who have improved access to health-care services for underserved populations.

Barbara Jones has been named a Senior Traffic Engineer at DGL Consulting Engineers. She formerly worked for the City of Toledo's Division of Transportation.

The Safety Council of Northwest Ohio will begin a Safety Leadership Certificate Program, over four consecutive Wednesdays, starting July 11.
