Bankruptcy cases down 18% in July from 2011

Filings in July in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in northwest Ohio decreased by 18 percent compared with the same month a year earlier, marking the fifth consecutive month that filings have dropped and the 22nd time in the last 23 months.

A total of 436 cases were recorded by the court, which covers 21 counties. That compared with 521 cases filed in June, and 534 cases filed in July, 2011.

A total of 3,197 Chapter 7 liquidation cases have been filed through the first seven months, down 15 percent from last year. There have been 304 Chapter 13 repayment plan cases filed, a decrease of 27 percent.
