Two northwest Ohio tree farms were honored in the 2012 Ohio Christmas Tree Association's state contest that took place at the Ohio State Fair.

The grand champion was a pine from Belmont County in eastern Ohio. The reserve champion was a fir from Kaleidoscope Farms in Hancock County. Both advance to represent Ohio in the national competition. Kaleidoscope Farms also won the top honor in the spruce division.

Whitehouse Christmas Tree Farm in Lucas County finished second in the pine category and third in the fir category.

Ohio State University faculty members judged the trees. The primary factors considered were shape, fullness, color, and overall appearance.
