COLUMBUS — Ohio gained 1,900 construction jobs in the 12-month period that ended July 31, according to the Associated General Contractors of America. The 1.1 percent increase is better than in most other states.

Nationally, construction employment declined in 31 states.

Officials said the number of large health-care and higher education projects in Ohio allowed the state to avoid the massive job losses that devastated the construction industry in Florida, Arizona, and California.
