Rossford officials Monday had the happy task of accepting a $200,000 check from Penn National Gaming Inc. that will be used for public safety purposes.

The payment was the fulfillment of a pledge the company made a year ago when it earmarked that amount to assist the city in paying for any increased costs of fire and police services that might be needed with the opening of Hollywood Casino Toledo just outside the Rossford city limits on Miami Street.

Mayor Neil MacKinnon said that in the six months it has been open, the casino has been a good neighbor, and he considered the people running it to be friends and “part of the fabric of the community.”

Rossford has already spent $70,000 on a new radio system for its police and fire departments.

City Council has yet to decide on how the remainder will be used.
