A Toledo roofing company has been fined $15,400 for a federal safety violation found at a construction site in Perrysburg during an inspection in October.

Salgau Roofing Inc. of 301 Burger St. was cited for a willful violation while it was involved in work at Holiday Inn Express on Oct. 15. Inspectors from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration found Salgau employees working on low-slope roofs with unprotected sides and edges that were 20 feet above the ground and more than 8 feet above the next lower level. Inspectors said there were no guardrails, safety nets, personal fall arrest systems, or other warning systems to protect workers.

The company has 15 days from the filing of the fine to appeal, request a conference with OSHA, or pay the fine.
