Canberra Corp. will add a 9,500-square-foot building at its corporate headquarters site at 3610 Holland-Sylvania Rd. in Sylvania Township.

“Canberra was approached by several Southern states about relocating down South. After introspection they decided to stay in Sylvania Township,” said Daryl Graus, Sylvania Township planning and zoning manager.

Founded in the 1960s, the business owned by the Yacko family of Sylvania has been headquartered locally for over 50 years. Although the details of the construction plans are still in the works, Ed Mueller, vice president of operations, said construction is scheduled for spring with completion by the end of the year.

The new building will be used to house the manufacturing operations of the corporation and will contain fill lines for the cleaning solutions it manufactures. Canberra makes cleaning solutions for industrial and commercial markets. Its JAWS, Just Add Water, household brand aims to reduce plastic bottle waste by offering refillable cleaning solutions in the form of compact cartridges. The firm has about 200 employees.
