A technical glitch shut down KeyBank’s online banking system for a few hours Monday morning, but the company said the system is up and running.

A spokesman for the Cleveland-based bank said the issue was internal and didn’t affect ATMs or mobile applications.

Possible cyberattacks leave U.S. banks wary

U.S. financial institutions, including some in Ohio, have been threatened by a potential cyberattack that could make online banking services unavailable today, the Ohio Bankers League and the Ohio Credit Union League warned Monday.

The two organizations emphasized that an interruption of service would not threaten the security of a person’s accounts, but could temporarily hamper the ability to conduct online transactions.

The Internet activist group Anonymous said it will target the Web sites of financial institutions and government agencies today.
