insurers to merge
10/7/2013PORT CLINTON — An Ottawa County insurance company will merge with an Akron company, the two announced recently.
Consolidated Business Benefits of Akron will become a division of Group Insurance Specialists Inc. when the merger is finalized.
The company will focus primarily on group insurance for midsized companies of 50 or more employees. In a release, the owners said the Affordable Care Act made the move attractive because it will change the small group insurance market.
Barry Hofer, president and owner of Group Insurance Specialists, said he and the other company's owner, Clark Swisher, have worked together often for 25 years.
