DETROIT — United Auto Workers unit Chrysler unit chief General Holiefield says he’s retiring next year.

UAW President Bob King says Chrysler wouldn’t be around today if it hadn’t been for Mr. Holiefield, who led the union’s bargainers in talks with the company as it went through federal bankruptcy proceedings.

A UAW-run health care trust for 130,000 Chrysler retirees owns a 41.5 percent stake in Chrysler Group LLC. Automaker Fiat SpA owns a majority.
