Macy’s department stores said Tuesday that it will open one of its Backstage stores on June 16 in its Franklin Park Mall store.

Macy’s Backstage is a discount outlet concept with merchandise pricing similar to T.J. Maxx, Marshall’s, and Nordstrom Rack. It will offer Toledo area customers a store-within-store shopping experience in 14,400 square feet of space on the second floor of the Franklin Park store.

Backstage, which was begun in 2015 and is in 63 Macy’s stores and seven others in freestanding locations, carries apparel, housewares, home textiles and decor, cosmetics, hair and nail care, gifts, jewelry, shoes, designer handbags, accessories, and activewear.

The concept features new and established brand names, promotional items, slightly out-of-season merchandise, or slightly flawed items at discounts of up to 80 percent off the full list price.

But Macy’s has stressed that Backstage does not deal in clearance items. Instead, it focuses on value and bargain items with a frequently-refreshed product mix to provide special deals, promote bargain-hunting, and create surprise for customers.
