Revenues at Ohio casinos dip in October; Toledo declines 1 percent

    • Revenues at Ohio's four full-service casinos fell nearly 1 percent in October, with just one property, Jack Casino in Cleveland, registering an increase in gaming income — and a small one at that.

    Hollywood Casino Toledo revenues were down nearly 1 percent for the month at $16.1 million. Gaming revenues at its sister gambling house, the Hollywood Casino Columbus, were down nearly 3 percent at $17.8 million. Both are owned by Penn National Gaming.

    Meanwhile, revenues at the Jack Cincinnati Casino, operated by Jack Entertainment, were down just 0.2 percent at $15.7 million. The Cleveland casino’s increase was 1 percent to $16.9 million.

    Total revenue for the four casinos was $66.5 million last month compared to $67.1 million in September.

    The figures were released Tuesday by the Ohio Casino Control Commission, which is the state body regulating the industry. Monthly reports from the state include only revenue from gambling, with food, drink, merchandise, and event sales excluded from the totals.

    The October figures pushed the statewide gaming revenues for 2017 well ahead of last year’s pace.

    Through the first 10 months of this year, the four Ohio casinos have collected revenues totaling $682.5 million, up from $669.4 collected through October, 2016.

    The $16.1 million collected at the Toledo casino put its revenues for the year at 2.5 percent higher than this time last year. Hollywood Toledo totaled $166.3 million through October, compared with $162.1 million for the same period in 2016.

    The Ohio casinos’ revenues, while down, still outpaced the state’s seven racinos, which pair horse racing with video slots. Revenues at the racinos dropped 1.4 percent in October to $78.2 million. Year-to-date, revenues at the seven racinos totaled $802 million, up 7 percent from the first 10 months of 2016 when revenues were $750.2 million.
