NAPOLEON - The federal investigation of a racially motivated attack here has been forwarded to the U.S. Justice Department for review, the FBI said.

The case involves a white Napoleon man who attacked a black woman walking with her infant daughter and cousin. Kraig Brinkman, 18, pleaded guilty Oct. 19 to one count each of assault and ethnic intimidation. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail.

The victim's family members said at the time of sentencing that they would like to see federal charges pressed as well.

Carl Spicocchi, senior supervisory resident FBI agent of the Toledo bureau, said the department's review of the attack was completed a few weeks ago. He added that Justice Department officials will determine whether federal charges should be filed.
