Patrons of the main Toledo-Lucas County Public Library downtown will be able to borrow hand-held devices that read electronic books starting today.
For its first step into electronic books, the library bought 20 of the mini-computers, at $595 each, Margaret Danziger, deputy director, said. The devices, at first, will be loaded with the same 11 titles, a combination of fiction and nonfiction, and a dictionary.
The devices allow readers to have multiple books in something the size of a single volume and to search for a word or phrase within the text, Ms. Danziger said. The devices may be checked out for up to two weeks.
