Farr tournament gives $380,000 to area charities

Eleven Northwest Ohio charities received $380,000 from the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic, it was announced yesterday.

The Ronald McDonald House of Northwest Ohio, Adopt America of Northwest Ohio, Assistance Dogs of America, Inc., the Boys and Girls Clubs of Toledo, Partners in Education, and the Toledo Hearing & Speech Center each received $50,000.

The Arthritis Foundation, the Family & Child Abuse Prevention Center, Huntington Community Center, Mercy Children's Hospital, and Toledo Children's Hospital each received $16,000.

Groups received the checks at the tournament's annual charity luncheon at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania.

The gifts increased the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic's total for donations to $3.2 million. The tournament has made gifts to 50 local groups since its inception in 1984.
