State files more charges against Buckeye Egg Farm

NEWARK, O. - For the fifth time, Ohio Attorney General Betty Montgomery has filed contempt-of-court charges against Buckeye Egg Farm, charging that it has repeatedly failed to correct its pollution problems.

The filing occurs just before Monday's hearing in Licking County on the third and fourth filings. The first and second charges were settled via consent agreements that the state maintains Buckeye has failed to honor.

All involve the massive chicken operation's facilities at Croton.

The state said Buckeye Egg has had nine illegal releases of contaminated water from its facilities since Aug. 9 and has failed to clean manure from its barns.
