SWANTON - A Monclova Township man was hurt seriously yesterday when his car was struck by a pickup truck as he pulled onto rain-slickened Airport Highway from Garden Road near Toledo Express Airport, authorities said.

Gregory DeTray, 19, was in serious condition last night in Toledo Hospital.

Mr. DeTray was southbound on Garden, stopped at the stop sign at Airport about 5:15 p.m., but failed to yield to the pickup truck, which was westbound on Airport, authorities said. The truck, driven by Charles Wymer, 50, of Swanton, hit the car in the driver's side door, troopers at the Ohio Highway Patrol's Toledo post said.

Mr. DeTray was trapped inside the car. Monclova Township firefighters used a hydraulic device to free him, troopers said.

It was unclear whether Mr. DeTray was wearing a seat belt. Mr. Wymer, who was wearing a seat belt and whose airbag deployed, was not hurt, troopers said.

The investigation is continuing, troopers said.
