A woman and her passenger were injured last night when their car struck the warning lights and gates at the Norfolk Southern Railroad crossing on Wentz Road in South Toledo, knocking the mechanism onto the tracks, authorities said.

The names of the woman driving the car and her passenger were not available last night. They were taken to Medical College of Ohio Hospitals. Their conditions were not available.

The driver was northbound on Wentz, between Angola Road and South Avenue, about 8 p.m. when she went across the tracks and struck the gates and warning lights at the north side of the crossing, authorities said. The unit fell south across the tracks.

The tracks were snow covered and apparently not being used, firefighters said. However, police alerted the railroad that the track was blocked. It was not known whether any trains were delayed.
