Public housing work nearing completion

1/19/2001

Nearly all residents displaced by renovation of a portion of Ravine Park Village have returned to their apartments, and work has begun on the third phase of the project.

Lawrence Gaster, executive director of the Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority, said the agency will ask for bids for contracts on the fourth and final phase of the project in August.

The East Toledo public housing apartments, with 166 units, opened in 1942 and were restored in 1978.

Willson Builders, Inc., which was awarded a contract of nearly $1.7 million in October, is completing the third phase, to be done in August. It includes refurbishing the exterior of the buildings and interior of each unit.

Roof work will wait for better weather.
